Step 1
Steam the nose: If your baby has no fever, inhaling wet vapors can help ease breathing and relieve nasal congestion. Turn on hot water in the bathroom, close the doors and sit there with your baby for a while. Then you can bathe the child in a warm bath with the addition of a few drops of essential oil (fir, menthol, sage).
Step 2
Put saline into your nose: To soften mucus and thin mucus, put a few drops of saline or a saline solution you made on your own into each nostril. Saline solution is prepared from the calculation - a teaspoon of salt in a glass of heated water. Bury your nose correctly - tilt the baby's head back slightly, holding it with one hand, and treat each nostril with the other hand.
Step 3
Remove nasal discharge. You can clear your baby's nose with a syringe or suction cup. Insert the tip of the syringe or aspirator at the entrance to the nostril and suck out the contents. Do not insert the instrument too deeply, you can damage the integrity of the nasal mucosa. If the baby knows how to blow his nose, then ask him to do this several times, but without straining.
Step 4
Wipe the spout and wipe the area around the nose with a soft cloth or paper towel to remove any remaining solution and lumps of mucus.
Step 5
Lubricate the entrance to the nostrils with oil or greasy cream. The skin around the nose during a runny nose can be damaged, redness and irritation form on it. Occasionally lubricate the nose area with greasy creams or petroleum jelly.
Step 6
Keep the nasal mucosa from drying out by adding the saline solution to the nose as often as possible to prevent the mucus from drying out and the process of getting rid of the runny nose will be faster. Maintain a high humidity level in the room.
