Romper is the most important element of every baby's wardrobe. Therefore, having decided to sew them yourself, it is important to remember that they should be comfortable, not restraining movements and made of breathable fabric, which will prevent hypothermia or overheating of the child.
Selecting fabric and taking measurements
Natural fabrics are best suited for sewing sliders, so they should be cut out of soft natural fabrics. It can be chintz, flannel, satin or cotton jersey. If the sliders are conceived for the cold season, you need to choose materials with a fleece for them.
In addition, it is unacceptable to use any coarse ties or buttons made of rigid materials. The seams should also be soft and elastic. It is recommended to carry them out from the outside of the product.
When taking measurements for sliders, you do not have to be absolutely precise - you can make a small margin, since children grow very quickly.
The pattern for the sliders can be cut along the waistline or with a one-piece bodice. In this case, they will be fastened on the shoulders of the child with small buttons or buttons. You can also use Velcro or regular ties.
To build a pattern, you need to measure the semicircle of the baby's chest and divide this figure in half. You should also measure the length of your legs. If the romper is conceived with a bodice, you need to measure the length from the foot to the child's shoulder and add a couple of centimeters for freedom of movement.
Slider pattern
First, you need to build the back half of the product. To do this, you need to draw a rectangle with sides equal to the numbers of the measurements taken.
For example, one side of the rectangle can be 25 cm (the chest semicircle was 23 cm and an increase of 2 cm for freedom of movement), and the other side can be 50 cm (the length from shoulders to heels was 48 cm and 2 cm to freedom).
In the right place, slots for the arms and neck are made.
The foot pattern must be made separately in the form of an oval, the sides of which are the width and length of the baby's foot. It is also necessary to add 2 cm to these values.
After building the pattern of the back half of the sliders, add another 1-1.5 cm to all sizes. These are seam allowances.
Next, a pattern is built for the front of the sliders. It is cut out similarly to the back half. It is important not to forget to make seam allowances and allowances for the child's freedom of movement.
You can additionally cut out a gusset. Its optimal dimensions are 5x9 cm.
Assembling the product
The front and back parts must be joined with a straight stitch along the side seams. Next, you should sew in the gusset and feet. Neck and hand cutouts must be trimmed with a bias tape. You can buy it in the store, or you can make it yourself from the same material as the sliders.
Velcro, buttons, buttons or ties must be sewn on the shoulders of the product. For ease of removing and putting on the sliders, you can skip the seams on the inside of the legs, but replace them with the same buttons or Velcro.
