In the summer, a splinter in a child is as common a problem as a broken knee or a minor bruise. Pulling it out does not pose any particular problems, however, you need to know the individual nuances of the process.
Necessary
- - a needle,
- - hot water,
- - means for disinfecting wounds.
Instructions
Step 1
Most often, splinters appear on the fingers and toes. In order to facilitate the process of pulling them out, the skin on the damaged area must first be steamed. To do this, it is enough to immerse your finger in warm water for 10 minutes. If during this time the child cannot sit still, you can try a warm compress. At an early age, children are afraid of such a procedure, so it is best to pull out the splinter together, when one adult holds the baby and the limb on his knees, and the second manipulates the needle. If you turn the procedure into a game, initially "removing a splinter" from the paw of a toy bear or dog, then the child will be less scared.
Step 2
Steaming the skin helps to smooth out painful sensations. When the skin is sufficiently steamed, disinfectants must be prepared before removing the splinter from the child. If the tip of the splinter protrudes above the skin, it remains only to pull it out with tweezers. If the whole splinter is hidden under the skin, then you will have to resort to using a needle. It must be treated with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, after which it is easy to lift the edge of the skin where a splinter or splinter begins. In the future, the foreign body is removed with tweezers or nails. You must act confidently, otherwise there is a great risk of splitting the splinter into small parts. In this case, it will be much more difficult to pull it out.
Step 3
An equally important aspect of how to get a splinter from a child is the treatment of the wound itself. It is carried out using hydrogen peroxide or brilliant green solution. You can use iodine or other modern medications. This avoids possible inflammation. If the wound is small, then you do not need to bandage it. However, if the splinter was large, then to prevent contact with bacteria, you can hide it with a plaster or bandage.
