Pregnancy is not a disease, as many people perceive this condition, but a special period in a woman's life, during which there are some restrictions that make it possible to safely carry and give birth to a child. For nine months, the organisms of the mother and the future person are so closely linked that all harmful substances also affect the fetus.

You should not perceive pregnancy as a temporary illness, during which you need to abruptly stop any activity and be suspicious of any effect on the body. There are many myths and unproven opinions about what pregnant women should not eat or do. Sports activities, sex life, hair coloring, the use of cosmetics, going to the sauna - all this is not contraindicated if there are no health problems and the threat of termination of pregnancy. Such activities should be treated with caution and take into account their own characteristics. But there are several contraindications that any woman should take seriously during pregnancy.

Bad habits and pregnancy

Pregnant women should definitely give up alcohol. Scientists have long studied the effect of alcoholic beverages on fetal development and have shown that many congenital malformations are associated with the mother's use of alcohol. Alcohol causes underdevelopment of the brain in a newborn, contributes to the occurrence of fetal abnormalities. The first semester of pregnancy is the most dangerous when drinking alcohol. But ideally, you need to give up alcohol a few months before the planned pregnancy and do not take anything alcohol-containing while carrying a child.

The most a pregnant woman can afford is a glass of wine from time to time.

Pregnant women should not smoke, as carbon monoxide contained in cigarette smoke replaces part of the oxygen in the body of the expectant mother and creates a lack of oxygen for the baby. This can lead to delays in the development of the child, problems with the heart and blood vessels, and low immunity. In addition, smoking often leads to abnormalities in the course of pregnancy: missed pregnancies, placental abruption, or premature birth.

Contraindications during pregnancy

Many medicines are contraindicated for pregnant women - this is always stipulated in the instructions for medicines. Many antibiotics, aspirin, vasoconstrictors, ambroxol-based drugs, and other medications should not be taken by pregnant women. If you are unsure about a remedy, consult your doctor.

Pregnant women should not lift weights, move heavy objects, or perform strength exercises. All these actions can lead to miscarriage, especially if uterine hypertonicity is observed.

Even if you were actively involved in strength exercises before pregnancy and could easily lift the barbell, you should not risk it, since the load on the body has increased.

X-rays or fluorography are never done during pregnancy, as X-rays can harm the baby. Therefore, women planning a pregnancy are advised to cure their teeth, since then it will not be possible to do an x-ray.

Also, pregnant women should not eat certain foods: raw or undercooked eggs with liquid proteins, so as not to get sick with salmonellosis, raw, unpasteurized milk, moldy cheeses and poorly cooked meats, which can cause toxoplasmosis or listeriosis.
